The Spanish explorers who discovered these islands just off the
coast of Florida were astonished by the extraordinary colour
and beauty of the surrounding waters. Bahamas comes from the
Spanish words 'baja mar' which means shallow seas and the clear
turquoise waters surrounding these islands remain virtually pollution
free.
The Bahamas is divided into three distinct destinations. First
there is New Providence the main island and home of Nassau the
capital city. Though a thriving commercial centre its colonial
character is maintained in stately old homes and colourful public
buildings. Paradise Island and Cable Beach are the two main tourist
areas.
Secondly there is Grand Bahama with Freeport and Lucaya and finally
The Out Islands which are the hidden treasures of the Bahamas.
These islands offer charming little towns and villages, miles
of breathtaking beaches, small family owned hotels, world class
sports and the true recipe for rest and relaxation.
