Towering mountains covered with lush tropical rainforests and
bordered by white sand beaches, Grenada is one of the most beautiful
islands in the Caribbean. Called the "Spice Isle" its
fertile soil produces an important amount of the world's supply
of nutmeg, and cinnamon, cloves, vanilla and bay leaves also
grow in the island's interior.
You can explore parts of the rainforest by a series of trails
which proudly display huge mahogany trees, and breathtaking waterfalls.
Brightly coloured butterflies pause to sunbathe on exotic tropical
plants, and an interesting range of birds repay the use of binoculars.
All the hotels are based in the flatter southern tip of the island,
which is close to the capital, St. George's. A picturesque harbour,
its heights are dominated by old forts and churches, with cobbled
streets winding past pastel coloured houses down to the yachts
and schooners anchored below.
Getting about
Secluded bays and hidden coves dot the coastline where white
sandy beaches are fringed with palm trees. Arrange a tour or
hire a car to explore this scenic island - you will be very well
rewarded.
